We Have A Return-It Express Kiosk

Now Consumers will be able to drop off their containers at the Willowbrook Recycling Return-It Express kiosk without having to sort them first. We take care of the sorting and credit the deposit refunds to the consumer’s online account.

Then, the consumer can turn those refunds into cash, gift cards, or a charitable donation.

Here’s how it works:

  1. To sign up for your free Return-It Express account, visit express.return-it.ca and register with a phone number of your choice.
  2. With Return-It Express there’s no need to sort. Simply place your empty beverage containers securely into a “Blue” or transparent bag.
  3. Visit our Willowbrook Recycling Return-It Express kiosk and use your registered phone number to access your account.
  4. Select how many bags you have and where you want us to deposit your refund. You can either choose your account or select one of the charities listed on the screen.
  5. Once you’ve finished, the kiosk will print off labels for you to stick on each bag. It’s important each bag receives it’s own sticker.
  6. Place your bags into the Express Kiosk drop off area and you are done. We’ll sort, count and refund your deposit. It’s that simple.
  7. Go online to check the status of your account or to redeem your refunds for e-gift cards, a cheque or a charitable donation.

FAQ

Where do I get the blue bags for the Express system?

The Express system was designed for your convenience. The bags simply need to be “Blue Recycling Bags” or transparent bags. These bags can be purchased at almost any grocery, drug store or hardware outlet. Glad, Western Family, Life, Safeway, No Name, HDX all will work with the Express system.  If the bag is blue or transparent and properly closed, simply drop it off at an Express location.

How do my containers get counted?

The Express system uses bar coded technology to track and record your bags throughout the counting and payment solution. Your containers are counted and a full and detailed receipt will be available on-line in your account to ensure you received credit for your bag contents.

What containers can I place in the bag?

Any beverage container that you paid a deposit on in BC is eligible for the Express program. US purchased containers as well as containers without labels, identification or ability to recognize are not eligible for a refund.

How do I use the Express system?

First you need to create an on-line account. From your smart phone or any computer, log on to express.return-it.ca. Complete the registration and you are immediately eligible to use the system. Bring your bagged containers to your nearest Express depot. Enter your phone number as indicated on your registration page. Select the number of bags you are dropping off. Drop the bags down the chute and enjoy the rest of your day.

How do I get paid?

Once your bags are counted, log into your on-line account where you will see the receipt for the entire bag you dropped off as well as the proper deposit refund. Save it up or spend it immediately that is up to you. The Express system allows you to redeem in electronic gift cards, donations to charities or a cheque refund.

How long will it take to get my account credited?

The Express system is designed to update your account balance within 5 business days of dropping off your containers at an Express depot.

What kind of gift card will I get?

The gift cards that are currently available are:

Boston Pizza
Cactus Club
Cineplex
The Keg

*Note: The gift card options are subject to regular updates/changes.

What if I don’t want a gift card?

Every consumer has the ability to receive their full deposit refund via a cheque. A minimum of $50.00 is required in order to issue a cheque. The electronic gift cards were developed to help you enjoy your refund immediately at any amount, thus allowing you to use the system at your convenience for the products or services you prefer.

What if my account was not credited what I thought I dropped off?

There are many reasons why your account may be credited less than what you anticipated. The Express technology uses bar coding and scanning to count and credit customer accounts. At times, there can be US containers, non-deposit containers or containers that unfortunately do not have a label that we can properly assess a deposit refund. Also be aware that if you dropped off multiple bags, they may have arrived at different times to our centralized counting facility. If you did drop off multiple bags, and your transaction credit is well short of what you dropped off, then please wait a few more days to see if the balance of your containers are counted and credited accordingly.

What is a “Non-conformant” container?

“Non-Conforming/Non-Deposit Bearing” containers are used beverage containers which did not have deposits paid on them at sale, and consequently do not qualify for the return of a deposit or which are damaged to the point they cannot be confirmed as deposit bearing. Examples include: US containers; containers without labels; and damaged containers (crushed cans).

What If I disagree with your count?

Unfortunately, the Express system is designed to be the final and deciding count. If you constantly find that you are in disagreement with the count and deposit refund, then Express may not be the solution for you. Encorp works diligently and leverages the newest technologies to ensure accuracy in our counting systems and effectiveness of the Express System.

Why do you need my email and phone number?

Your email and phone number are the most critical pieces of information for the Express system. Your phone number is the link to your account at the drop off point in the depot. It tells the system who to credit the deposit to. Your email is used to send out the electronic gift cards.

Why electronic gift cards?

Encorp has partnered with a leading gift card provider to leverage new technologies and environmentally safe payment solutions. An electronic gift card allows us to send you a payment via your email account to your phone, ipad, or computer. It is an instant transaction and has a very small environmental impact. No paper, no postage, no plastic cards. Another advantage is that the consumer does not lose them. It is stored on your digital device until you redeem it.

Can I label my bags at home?

The Express system was designed to save you time and build the most convenient recycling system in North America.  When you are at the depot, simply print out a few extra stickers and take them home with you. When your bag is full, place the sticker on the bag and drop off at your convenience. This will save you the time in the depot, and expedite your transaction.

Who decided the charities?

Encorp selected the Charities based on their involvement in the entire Province of BC, and the multiple projects and smaller charities they support. There are so many great charities, and we always encourage generosity when deciding on how to spend your deposit refund. The charities you can donate to are:

Habitat for Humanity
Food Banks of BC
Boys & Girls Clubs of South Coast BC
BC Children’s Hospital

*Note: The charity selections are subject to regular updates/changes.

Can I get cash from the depot from my account?

The Express system is not accessible by the depot owners and operators. They do not have the ability to access your account, and provide cash payments. If cash at the depot is important to you, then we recommend you continue using the great depot network in the Province as before.

Who do I contact when I have a problem?

For all questions and concerns, you can contact our help desk. The depot operators are unable to assist or provide account information. Please contact Encorp directly at 1-855-350-2345 if you are experiencing problems which have not been answered in the FAQ’s.
